“She has a fearless attack, vehement power and a good trill”
-San Francisco Chronicle, 2024 Adler Fellows Concert
American soprano Georgiana Adams is an artist drawn to the dramatic and emotional power of music, with a particular passion for storytelling that lives at the intersection of vocal color, text, and character. Known for her expressive musicality and a deep commitment to dramatic truth in her performances, she is drawn to roles that explore moral and societal complexity, emotional vulnerability, and transformation.
A recent Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera, Adams appeared on the company’s mainstage as the Cretan Woman in Mozart’s Idomeneo and as a Flowermaiden in Wagner’s Parsifal, and reprised the role of Musetta in Bohème Out of the Box. Her work with the company also included covers of Elettra (Idomeneo) and Musetta (La Bohème). Equally at home in the classical operatic canon and contemporary works, during her time with San Francisco Opera Georgiana was entrusted with covering the role of Aunt Lydia in Poul Ruders’ The Handmaid’s Tale, and the complex roles of the Bride and Lilly in the United States premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence, a production she will rejoin at the Metropolitan Opera in the spring of 2026.
Adams was also a featured performer in San Francisco Opera’s Future Is Now concert series, performing scenes and arias from Britten’s Peter Grimes, Handel’s Rodelinda, Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, Puccini’s La Bohème, and Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana. She is a 2023 alumna of the Merola Opera Program, where she performed Anna in scenes from Kevin Puts’ Silent Night, covered the harrowing role of Female Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, and performed Wagner and Mozart scenes on the Merola Grand Finale Concert.
Passionate about both operatic and concert repertoire, Adams debuted as a featured vocal soloist with San Francisco Ballet in the world-premiere program Mere Mortals, a collaboration with composer Floating Points, and has appeared as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.
A recent graduate of the Juilliard School, Adams earned her master’s degree in music in the spring of 2023 and was awarded the Stephen Novick Grant for Career Advancement. During the 2022-2023 season, she made her Alice Tully Hall debut singing songs of Respighi and role debut as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. With the Juilliard Opera Theater, Georgiana performed the roles of Littler Sister in Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up, Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and covered the titular role in Suor Angelica. Other roles include Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Lady Billows in Britten’s Albert Herring.
In the spring of 2024, Georgiana was the proud winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Western Region, and was selected as one of nineteen singers to advance to the National Semifinals where she performed on the Metropolitan Opera stage. An avid competitor, Adams is the 2nd prize winner in the 2024 Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition, was a finalist in the 2023 Opera Index Competition, and is the winner of the 2020 Casa Italia Vocal Competition in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
